Well Done to the Academy Athletes

Lots of Academy Athletes took part in the Hampshire and Sussex Schools Championships on Saturday 12th June. Although this year was a very watered down experience with no medals many athletes enjoyed the experience of competing on a county level.

Masie Read competed in the 100m and the 200m finishing a fantastic 2nd place in the 200m with a PB of 27.6 and reaching the final of the 100m where she finished 5th. Anna Fairbairn despite an injury gained at a ditrict trial raced well in the 200m finishing 6th and then going on to finish a very close 4th in the 100m equalling her PB with 13.3. Ellie Doran competed well in the 200m and if it were not for a slight mishap at the start would have surely gained a massive PB. Fola Odofin competed in the 100m after dropping out of the 200m and came home in 1st place with a time of 12.7s. In the 100m the lack of blocks took some athletes by surprise but these competitions are just a learning curve and lessons will have been learnt by all.

In the 300m Hattie Bond who had an amazing 1st 200m blitzed the field coming off the bend 6-8 metres in front but was caught by one athlete in the last few strides and finished a great 2nd and a PB performance of 45.3

Over to the Shot and Rosa-May Sprake throw a PB of 10.06m to finish a close 2nd in the shot put and then proceeded straight to the Discus where she finished 1st. With the National Standard distance of 30m already thrown she will be competing at the English Schools Champs.

Over to the Sussex Schools Champs and Katherine Brook competing in the 75mh achieved a fantastic 5th place with a new PB of 13.2s

There will be many years 8s in the Academy looking towards to this competition in its full format next year but there hopefully will be a Year7/8 Hampshire Champs that usually takes place in July
