GB Sprint Star To compete at Hampshire County Championship

I’m aiming to put together some competitions for July and August this year so watch out for those.

I have resisted putting on competitions these first few months as developing the South of England Sprint Academy had become a Priority.

This Year has seen some amazing developments with GB Sprinter Jamal Rhoden-Stevens becoming part of the Academy back in October and his training has gone well through the Winter Months. Jamal this year will be opening up his season at ‘The Hampshire County Championships’ on the 14th May in the 100m. With Jamal running 10.07 in training it may be worth coming down to The Mountbatten Centre to witness what could be the fastest run at The Champs in modern history. Backing him up in the 100m will be Gavin Bodrell who trained with the academy during the Winter and will be looking for a fast time travelling down from his new home up in Glasgow. V40 Kevin Wheeler will also be looking to turn back the clock in the 100m after training hard over the Winter.

The Academy Ranks have also been boosted with the arrival of ’City of Portsmouth AC’ U17W athlete Fola Odofin who has been working hard to break under the 12 second Barrier. She runs in the Hampshire Champs on Saturday 13th with a great chance of gold and a super fast time to boot. I’m also excited to see the progress of the Academy’s crop of other exciting U17 women with Annabel Webb putting down some fast times in training along with Ellie Doran, Damilola Akinpelu, Harriett Campbell and Katherine Brook who also competes in the Sprint hurdles. One absentee this year is last years U15G Hampshire schools Champion Msisie Read who sadly decided to quit athletics for pastures new. Good luck to her for the future.

In the Male U20/U17 categories stalwart Ben Boyle will be looking for a super fast time at the Hampshire Champs alongside training partners Issac Fatunwase both in the U17m 100m and U20 Havant Athlete Matthew Childs who has also recently started training with this exciting group of talented athletes. Matthew will be competing in the U20 200m and 400m.

In the Junior sections we have an abundance of talented youngsters including in the Girls U13G Category Havant AC athlete Annemiek Van Den Braak with SETAFA athletes Laila Rawlings and Desiree Ola. All 3 girls taking part in the 100 and 200ms at the County Championship. Whilst in the U13B category Isle of Wight AC athlete Remy Deegan will be looking for county records. Remy has only Just started training with the academy and will be one of many stand out performers on Saturday and Sunday.

In the U15G category we have a Plethora of exciting athletes with Gabby Falano, Harriett Griffith-Horrod, Ruby Mackay and Laila Holt competing at the weekend. Gabby, Harriet and Ruby will be competing in the 100m and 300m with Laila competing in the Long Jump and her new event the Triple Jump. At the Academy we also have U15G Omolara Akinpelu, Mesoma Nwabueze and Shimmy Pine-Abata who will be competing later on in the month.

Unfortunately no competitors in the U15B category with Oshae Baker and Harry Johnstone looking to make their debuts at the end of the month

Exciting Times for sprinting on the South Coast
