Sitting at home on the Eve of a very busy weekend of athletics starting on Saturday 10th June with GB Sprint star Jamal Rhoden-Stevens setting of on a long journey to Cardiff to take part in a run with the wind event at The Cardiff International Track. Setting off at 6.00am and a 4 hour journey by train shows how determined an athlete can be to gain success and a fast time. Good luck to Jamal and I hope you get the time you truly deserve.
A bit closer to home 7 future stars are taking part in the Hampshire Schools Championships starting with 3 U17 Men lining up in the 100m. 3 academy future stars in Ben Boyle, Isaac Fatunwase and Albert Hughes will face off against each other for the 2nd time in as many weeks. Hopefully all 3 will qualify for the final and a great race will ensue. Over in the U17W category Fola Odofin fresh from her victory in the Hampshire Counties will try for the Hampshire Double and it will take a great performance to beat her. Also in the 200m Damilola Akinpelu will battle it out in the 200m and will be looking for a good performance. Over in the U15G Mesoma Nwabueze and Omolara Akinpelu will be looking for big performances also in the 200m
On Sunday we see the 2nd Wessex League Fixture taking place at Winchester University Track with a good compliment of athletes taking part. In this league we partnered with Havant AC and this has been a fantastic success. In the U13G category Annemiek Van Den Braak will look to improve her PB further in both the 100m and 200m and hopefully the wind will finally be kind. In the U15G Harriet Griffiths-Horrod continues her rise up the rankings with a run out in the 100m. Laila Holt also takes part in the 100m plus her main event the long jump where she will be hoping for favourable wind conditions. Both girls will be joined by Mesoma Nwabueze and Omolara Akinpelu fresh from their exploits on Saturday. Both Omolara and Mesoma will also be running in the 200m. In the U17W age group Annabel Webb will continue her revitalised season in the 100m and she will be joined by Damilola Akinpelu who also competes in the 200m.. Over at a different venue Remy Deegan will be taking part for the Isle of Wight in another Wessex League match taking place at the same time. After his amazing treble at the Hampshire Counties Event anything is possible. In the U15B Oshae Baker takes on his 2nd ever outing in the 100m and 200m. His 1st performance 2 weeks ago produced a blistering run and this will surely better that. Lastly in the U20m new academy athlete Matthew Childs will be going all out in the 100m and 200m with PBS on the menu.
